Hello,
When you host your own website you tend to treat it like your baby, and I've gone a bit off the edge I reckon. I am a google analytics freak, it's a strong statement I know. I love checking in every few days and seeing where in the world people are located who are visiting my site, how long they stay and so on and so forth.
In particular, March 2009 was a huge month for traffic in the lonely and isolated world of www.ryanpyle.com. I was very honored to have been included in the PDN 30 Emerging photographers list and therefore my name, and my website, and my work, have received more attention than any previous month. Below I've done a little run down of who is visiting my site and from where, and I've compared February 2009 with March 2009 to show the affects of the PDN inclusion, which was announced publicly on March 2nd 2009. Take a quick peak:
TOTAL VISITORS
Feb.2009 = 97
Mar.2009 = 795
UNIQUE VISITORS
Feb.2009 = 83
Mar.2009 = 699
AVERAGE TIME ON SITE
Feb.2009 = 2m 11s
Mar.2009 = 29s
TOP KEY WORDS USED TO FIND MY SITE
Feb.2009 = Ryan Pyle
Mar.2009 = Ryan Pyle (106)
TOP TRAFFIC SOURCES
Feb.2009 = Google (40) (Organic Searches)
Mar.2009 = aphotoeditor.com (204) (the site is a blog run by Rob Haggart, whom I've never met)
TOP TRAFFIC: COUNTRY
Feb.2009 = United States (36)
Mar.2009 = United States (274)
TOP TRAFFIC: CITY
Feb.2009 = Shanghai (24)
Mar.2009 = New York (75)
Now, while it's pretty obvious to see the differences between February and March, it is interesting to note that in February I had much fewer hits but people were spending more time on my site (2m11s), whereas in March I had 8 times as many visitors but they seemed to just pop in and take a browse (30s).
The big question will be if this short-term increased exposure will lead to any interesting new assignments (either editorial or corporate) and whether there will be any long lasting affect. If there is anything to report, you can bet I'll be sure to share it in this space.
